Voordat ik daadwerkelijk tot het inrichten van een nieuwe website overga, neem ik altijd eerst een aantal voorbereidende stappen.
Om te voorkomen dat er naderhand allerlei overbodig werk gedaan moet worden, is het handig een aantal instellingen van de site na te lopen.

Omdat de meeste sites die ik voor klanten maak in principe niet bedoeld zijn om te bloggen, schakel ik de mogelijkheid om te reageren op pagina’s of berichten uit. Om dat te bereiken zorg je dat onder ‘Instellingen – Reacties’ elk vinkje in de selectievakjes is uitgeschakeld. Mocht je op een bepaalde pagina of op een bepaald bericht wel een reactie wenselijk vinden, dan kun je dat individueel instellen via de knop ‘Snel bewerken’. Die wordt zichtbaar als je in het overzicht van de pagina’s of berichten over de naam van het item zweeft:
- De tweede belangrijk instelling die gewijzigd moet worden is die van de Permalinks. De standaardinstelling moet worden gewijzigd, omdat die instelling niet gebruikersvriendelijk, maar ook niet zoekmachinevriendelijk is. De naam van elke pagina wordt dan weergegeven als een paginanummer (bijvoorbeeld ?page=123, zoals hieronder wordt getoond).
Een betere optie is ‘Berichtnaam’. Deze instelling zorgt ervoor dat in het url-venster een zinvolle naam wordt getoond, bijvoorbeeld: https://webuplease.nl/het-kiezen-van-een-wordpressthema/.
- Daarna ga ik over tot het installeren van een aantal van mijn favoriete plugins.
